Making a Book With No Pictures

A writing and book-making class for 9-11 year-olds offered through the The Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis.

A great class for the reluctant reader or shy writer! "Badoongy faces" familiar with B.J. Novak's interactive The Book with No Pictures know how delightfully it engages young readers by making the narrator say and do things he/she might not otherwise do (like say "badoongy faces").

In this week-long class we'll explore a range of interactive and traditional picture books to identify and dissect the elements of story. We'll generate ideas and practice storytelling through improv games, and we'll construct our stories through idea mapping, free writing and peer feedback. Finally, we will commit our stories to paper by creating and writing in our very own hand-made books with MCBA book arts staff.
